The ROOTS Project on Tuesday, 21st February, held a Rice input supply planning meeting with stakeholders in the Central River Region. The meeting was attended by four Rice schemes: Jahally and Pacharr in the Central River Region South (CRRS), Barajally and Sukuta in the Central River Region North (CRRN), and the Project’s regional team (Regional Coordinators and Field Assistants for Sustainable Rice Production). The meeting was held at the Project’s headquarters in Abuko.
The Project will intervene in dry season production in the CRR for the 2023 production season at the pre-listed sites. During the meeting, the declining input subsidy model was explained to the representatives of the beneficiaries, which they agreed to adopt. ROOTS will collaborate with the Rural Village Credit and Training Programme (RVCTP) to support Rice Production in the pre-listed sites. ROOTS will consider other supports that the RVCTP is not providing, which are critical to production. Key issues were discussed and agreed on, such as providing ploughing services, desilting canals, protection against hippos, timelines, and the next steps.
The Project will also support rain-fed Rice Production in other regions such as the WCR, NBR, LRR.
