Strengthening Onion Marketing in The Gambia!

The Resilience of Organizations for Transformative Smallholder Agriculture Project (ROOTS) successfully hosted the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Onion Marketing at its Headquarters in Abuko.
The MoU, signed between the National Food Security Processing and Marketing Corporation (NFSPMC), the National Association of Vegetable Growers Cooperatives (SOSOLASO), and the ROOTS Project, marks a major step toward strengthening the onion value chain in The Gambia.
The ceremony was graced by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Security, alongside the Director General of the Department of Agriculture and other senior government officials.
The agreement was signed by:
The Deputy Managing Director on behalf of NFSPMC
The Secretary General of SOSOLASO representing farmer organizations
The Project Director of ROOTS
The event also brought together key stakeholders including the Ministry of Trade, Department of Cooperative Development, NACOFAG, and other partners.
This strategic collaboration, coordinated by MEB Consultancy, aims to improve structured market access for smallholder onion farmers, enhance coordination between producers and buyers, reduce post-harvest losses, and promote the consumption of locally produced onions.
The initiative will focus on key production regions including the North Bank Region (NBR) and West Coast Region (WCR), contributing to inclusive agricultural commercialization and national food security.
