ROOTS Breakfast briefing with the National Assembly Select Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development

 

On Saturday 30thJuly 2022, the ROOTS Project organized a briefing session for the National Assembly Select Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development at Tamala hotel in Kololi. The aim of the session is to enlighten the committee about the project and its activities. The first part of the session was overview of the project, implementation progress highlighting the achievements and challenges and the last part was on the Agricultural Value-Change Interactive Platform (AVIPS).

In his opening remarks the ROOTS Project Director Mamour Alieu Jagne thanked the Honorable Members for attending session despite their busy schedule. He said the session will help the Select Committee members in their oversite function as well as in monitoring and giving support to the project. He thanked the ministry for the support given to ROOTS. He assured the Hon. Members of ROOTS readiness to work with the National Assembly to                                                            achieve the Project Development Objective.

For his part Hon. Omar Darboe the National Assembly member for Upper Nuimi, of the National Assembly Select Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development, thanked the ROOTS project and the Ministry of Agriculture for organizing such a very important session for the Select       Committee. He assured the gathering of his committee’s support to ROOTS and the Ministry in general. He urged all stakeholders to collaborate with them in the execution of their oversite functions.

The Project Director gave an overview of the project, highlighting the achievements and challenges the project is facing, he concluded by soliciting the support of the select committee in overcoming some of the challenges. The presentation on the AVIPS was done by Dr. Mohammad Kebbeh the Executive Director of the West African Rural Foundation the firm implementing the AVIP for the ROOTS project.

Hon. Yaya Sanyang of LatriKunda constituency gave the votes of thanks on behalf of his colleagues. He expressed delight and honour to the ROOTS and the Ministry for organizing such an educative session for the select committee. He urged the Ministry to be frequently organizing such sessions to update the Assembly members on implementation status.
