The ROOTS Project, in collaboration with the Plant Protection Services under the Department of Agriculture (DoA), conducted a three-day training for farmer auxiliaries from 27 ROOTS-supported communities on the safe use and application of herbicides.
Held from 10–12 August 2026 at the Farmer Training Centre in Jenoi, Lower River Region (LRR), the training brought together participants from communities across the ROOTS Project intervention regions.
The training aimed to strengthen the knowledge and practical skills of farmer auxiliaries in the responsible handling, safe application and effective use of herbicides, while promoting good agricultural practices and reducing potential risks to farmers, consumers and the environment.
As frontline resource persons within their communities, the trained farmer auxiliaries are expected to share the knowledge and skills acquired with fellow farmers, helping to promote safer and more responsible herbicide use at community level.
Through initiatives such as this, the ROOTS Project continues to strengthen farmers’ capacities and promote safer, sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural practices across its intervention areas.
